Hawaii's Punahou School Deploys Secure Computing's Secure Web to Bolster Internet Security

Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), a leading enterprise
gateway security company, today announced that Honolulu's
prestigious Punahou School has entered a three-year agreement to
license Secure Computing's Secure Web (formerly known as
Webwasher). Punahou School selected the Web filtering and security
solution over the competition because of its environmentally
friendly features, best-in-class malware and URL filtering, and
built-in reporting capabilities.
"During the past year, we've been evaluating Secure Computing's
Secure Web, along with appliances from other industry leading
vendors," reported David Parrish, chief architect of Punahou
School's IT network. "Secure Web gave us all of the features we
needed without adding to our carbon footprint. That's very
important to us here in Hawaii where energy costs are particularly
high."
Unlike competing products, Secure Web can utilize virtualization
technology, which allows one appliance to run multiple solutions.
For example, instead of deploying separate hardware for intrusion
detection and Web filtering, Punahou can choose to run both
solutions on one appliance. As a result, Punahou will reduce energy
consumption, benefiting the school's bottom line while helping
protect the environment. In addition, deploying Secure Web on a
virtual appliance won't require additional space, which can be very
costly in Honolulu.
Punahou School also pointed to Secure Web's superior malware and
URL filtering capabilities as key reasons for selecting the Secure
Computing solution. "In a school setting, it's obviously very
important to have technology in place that blocks inappropriate and
malicious content. In our testing, Secure Web consistently blocked
threats effectively," said Parrish.
Secure Web achieves such outstanding results by leveraging its
industry-leading TrustedSource(TM) technology. "TrustedSource
assigns reputation scores to Internet hosts and devices based on
their behavior -- much like a credit bureau assigns credit ratings
to consumers," explained Ken Rutsky, vice president of Product
Marketing at Secure Computing. "As a result, Secure Web can stop
spyware, viruses, phishing and other malware even if the site is in
an allowed category and there is no available signature for the bad
code."
In addition, deploying Secure Web gives Punahou School a single
point of contact for support. "In the past, we used separate
products for reporting and filtering," noted Parrish. "With Secure
Web, we'll have one number to call for all of our support
needs."
Punahou School purchased Secure Web through CORESystems Hawaii,
a Secure Computing Gold Partner. CEO Bill Clisham revealed that he
decided to join Secure Computing's extensive partner network in
Hawaii specifically so that he could offer Secure Web to the
school. "Punahou School has a well-deserved reputation for
excellence in both academics and athletics," said Clisham. "Because
Secure Computing also has a reputation for being the best, it
seemed like a natural fit."
Parrish agreed. "We were really impressed with the Secure Web
product, and we're convinced that it's the solution that best meets
our school's needs."
In addition to deploying Secure Web, Punahou School will host an
upcoming Secure Computing training session. Representatives from
several corporations, government agencies, and other educational
institutions are scheduled to attend.
