FORT WORTH, Texas, June 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AZZ Galvanizing
Services, a division of AZZ incorporated (NYSE:AZZ), led the awards
for "Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing," winning five of the 14
categories presented by the American Galvanizers Association, a
leading trade association in the galvanizing industry.
AZZ Galvanizing Services competed against more than 100 projects
representing hot-dip galvanizing's versatility. The awards are
presented to projects that utilize hot-dip galvanizing in an ideal,
creative, innovative or monumental fashion.
- Lifetime Achievement Award – presented to AZZ
Galvanizing Services-Canton for the Bridges of Stark County, Ohio. Hot-dip galvanizing was
applied by AZZ to three interstate bridges during the 1970s, which
remain corrosion free.
- Excellence Award, Bridge and Highway – presented to AZZ
Galvanizing Services-Arizona for galvanizing the Bear Canyon Arroyo
Bicycle / Pedestrian Bridge in Albuquerque, New Mexico. An architectural
landmark crossing I-25 and linking the eastern greenbelt to the
west, the bridge keeps cyclists and pedestrians safe while 450
colored LED lights, resembling a flaming arroyo, bring the bridge
to life.
- Excellence Award, Original Equipment Manufacturing –
presented to AZZ Galvanizing Services-St. Louis for the hot-dip
galvanized Mississippi River Bridge Traveler. With unique corrosion
concerns from winter conditions, maintenance of the Traveler will
be minimal while safety and convenience will be maximized.
- Excellence Award, Industrial – presented to AZZ
Galvanizing Services-Denver for work on a Coal Pile Wind Fence for
the Comanche generating station
near Pueblo, Colorado. The
100-foot-tall, hot-dip galvanized wind fence provides environmental
protection from trace amounts of coal dust escaping the facility
and will stand for decades with little to no maintenance
needed.
- Civic Contribution Award – presented to AZZ Galvanizing
Services-Arkansas, Dixon and
Canton for work on the Jessup
Bridge in Jessup, Iowa. Working
with county engineers and the Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance, AZZ
coordinated steel and fabrication contributions and donated
galvanizing to revitalize this vital link for farmers and growers
in the community.
