Boeing Co. said it had made a counter proposal to its largest
union for a contract designed to secure manufacturing of its
planned 777X jetliner in Washington state, but that union leaders
had rejected the deal.
Boeing's statement Thursday came at the end of a third day of
talks with the International Association of Machinists and
Aerospace Workers, which represents more than 32,000 of its
employees. The union on Wednesday had made its own new proposal,
following a vote on Nov. 13 in which its members overwhelmingly
rejected an initial offer from the company that sought deep
concessions from workers on pensions, health care and wages.
