Walt Disney Co. and IMAX Corp. agreed to release a handful of
upcoming Disney films in IMAX theaters, with plans to team up on
several Marvel films and a Star Wars movie in 2015.
The deal continues IMAX and Disney's long-running relationship
and will involve IMAX being part of Disney's release strategy for
several major films, including this year's "Marvel's Captain
America: The Winter Soldier," "Maleficent," and "Marvel's Guardians
of the Galaxy," as well as next year's "Marvel's Avengers: Age of
Ultron," "Tomorrowland" and "Star Wars: Episode VII."
Last year, the two companies agreed to co-produce their first
movie together, expanding the relationship between the
entertainment giant and the operator of theaters known for large
floor-to-ceiling curved screens.
The companies have previously collaborated together on the
distribution of numerous films such as "Fantasia 2000" and "Oz the
Great and Powerful."
"Disney's and Marvel's larger-than-life characters and dynamic
universes clearly resonate with our core audiences," said IMAX
executive Greg Foster. "We are delighted to build upon this
longtime association."
