Air at Pack Expo
It is a rare occurrence in any industry when a new innovation
increases productivity by three to four times. But that is what
International Dispensing Corporation (IDC) (IDND) and Sealed Air
Corporation (SEE) have accomplished by jointly developing the
IDC/Cryovac SpeedFlex™ Bag-in-Box ultra-high-speed filler, which
over the past two weeks made its industry debuts in Europe and the
United States.
Alfa Laval, the Parma, Italy-based manufacturer selected by IDC
and Sealed Air to design and produce the proprietary machine,
introduced the IDC/Cryovac SpeedFlex™ Bag-in-Box system on
September 16 at Drinktec in Munich, Germany. A week later on
September 23, Sealed Air officially launched the new
ultra-high-speed filler at its booth at Pack Expo in Las Vegas
(press releases from Alfa Laval and Sealed Air, as well as a Sealed
Air video and various trade press articles, can be found on IDC’s
website, www.idcinnovation.com).
Developed through a strategic alliance between IDC and Sealed
Air’s Cryovac® food packaging brand, the IDC/Cryovac SpeedFlex™
system is, in the words of Sealed Air’s September 23 press release,
“a superior alternative to existing bag-in-box beverage packaging,
offering operational efficiency advantages including bag filling
speeds of three times that of standard bag-in-box fillers.
“The IDC/Cryovac Speedflex™ Bag-in-Box system offers a complete
solution comprised of equipment, bag-in-box packaging materials,
customizable dispensing fitments including proprietary IDC
technology, and industry-leading customer support from Sealed Air’s
Food Care division. The solution, FDA accepted for aseptic
packaging of low-acid food and beverage products, is optimized for
high-volume processors of liquids such as dairy, flavorings, fruit
purees, juices, sauces, smoothies and ice cream mixes, tea and
coffees.”
The Sealed Air press release went on to say that the IDC/Cryovac
SpeedFlex™ Bag-in-Box system offers a smaller footprint than the
multiple machines it replaces, efficient changeover capabilities,
remote diagnostics tools, and unmatched speed and efficiency.
After returning from Drinktec and Pack Expo, IDC’s Chairman and
CEO Greg Abbott said the following: “With The Answer® aseptic tap
and now the IDC/Cryovac SpeedFlex™ Bag-in-Box system, IDC has
achieved two of the aseptic industry’s most stellar innovations,
which together are changing the way the packaging industry and
global beverage brands look at bag-in-box. In Sealed Air’s Cryovac
Food Care division, IDC has partnered with one of the world’s most
respected and forward-looking packaging companies.”
