Foundry Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: FDRY), a performance and total
solutions leader for end-to-end switching, routing, and Web traffic
management solutions, and Arbor Networks, a leader in network
security, today announced a partnership through Foundry's Security
Alliance Program to collaborate on security solutions using Arbor
Peakflow(R) for sFlow. The solution combines Arbor Peakflow, a
next-generation, network-based managed security technology, with
Foundry's sFlow, an industry standard technology for monitoring
high-speed switched networks, embedded into its networking
products, to deliver a network-wide solution for security and
operational performance. "Arbor is an important partner in
Foundry's security umbrella," said Gary Hemminger, director of
product marketing, Foundry Networks. "Our customers express
significant interest in anomaly-based solutions that can scale
across a wide range of network sizes while providing powerful tools
for detecting and responding to network threats and abuse. The key
to the solution's scalability is Arbor Networks' use of the
embedded sFlow capabilities to see detailed packet information
across the entire network. Because sFlow is available in all of
Foundry's networking equipment, our joint solutions are ideal for
both enterprises and service provider environments." Today's
businesses require network visibility across their entire network
in order to detect and prevent accidental and malicious behavior by
internal users. Arbor Networks and Foundry Networks collaborated on
Arbor Peakflow for sFlow to leverage Foundry's high performance
Ethernet switches by analyzing sFlow data delivered directly from
Foundry's switches and routers. Foundry's switches and routers
support sFlow as a standard feature; customers can now simply
activate sFlow and direct it to the Arbor Peakflow appliance, which
baselines network traffic to detect and prevent network anomalies.
This approach provides a scalable and cost-effective answer for IT
security managers to retain total network visibility while also
complementing security solutions, such as firewalls, intrusion
prevention systems, and other signature-based security appliances.
"As more companies experience an increasing number of security
breaches on a daily basis, the need for strong security controls to
protect internal networks is critical," said Jack Boyle, CEO, Arbor
Networks. "We are very pleased to be partnering with Foundry which
will give more organizations the ability to monitor, detect and
respond to suspicious and malicious traffic throughout the internal
enterprise network. Arbor Peakflow for sFlow enables organizations
to significantly reduce the time and costs associated with
distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks and worm outbreaks
while providing the operational reports for traffic utilization and
routing events." According to Paul E. Proctor, Research VP at
Gartner, Inc., "Organizations are increasingly finding value in
analyzing flow data to identify behaviors on their networks that
are hard to detect using other methods. The visibility provided by
network behavior analysis through the analysis of natively
available sFlow can be a valuable security strategy enhancement."
