PR Newswire (US)
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MIPS
Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MIPS), a leading provider of
industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital
consumer, networking, personal entertainment, communications and
business applications, today announced that Broadcom Corporation
has extended its relationship with MIPS to drive the company's
current and future SoC designs. One of the first MIPS32(R) and
MIPS64(R) architecture customers and an early adopter of MIPS' core
technology, Broadcom will license the entire range of MIPS32
processor cores to power next-generation products for business,
service provider and consumer markets. "Over the years, MIPS(R)
processor technology has played a pivotal role in our development
of cutting-edge designs for business and consumer markets," said
Daniel A. Marotta, Senior Vice President and General Manager,
Broadband Communications Business Group, Broadcom Corporation. "Our
decision to license the entire MIPS product line, with its
unparalleled performance, low-power and cost benefits, will enable
Broadcom to deliver a distinct competitive advantage in our designs
as we respond to the evolving market needs of our customers."
"We're delighted that our growing relationship with Broadcom
continues to help drive innovative products for the networking,
broadband access and digital entertainment industries worldwide,"
said John Bourgoin, president and chief executive officer at MIPS
Technologies. "We look forward to broadening the scope of our
relationship and providing next-generation solutions for the home,
small business and enterprise markets." Broadcom has licensed the
entire array of industry-leading MIPS32 processor cores, which
consist of the following product lines: 34K(TM) Family -- The first
MIPS(R) cores to exploit multi-threading for embedded applications,
the 34K family delivers significant gains in system performance and
cost savings, with a very modest increase in die size. 24K(R)
Family -- The low-power 24K cores offer 660 MHz performance in a 90
nanometer G process, minimizing design time and reducing product
costs. They are ideal for home entertainment applications as well
as portable, battery powered consumer devices. 24KE(TM) Family --
The high performance 24KE cores incorporates efficient DSP
capability while significantly reducing overall SoC die area, cost,
and power consumption and improving signal processing performance.
4KE(TM) Family -- The highly-configurable 4KE cores offer SoC
designers a tailored solution for high-performance, low-power
consumer applications, giving them the flexibility to optimize
applications by maximizing performance or minimizing power
consumption. 4KS(TM) Family -- The 4KSd secure data core is a
high-performance processor that meets the needs of emerging secure
data applications and the stringent power, security and size
requirements for smart cards, without the need of a coprocessor.
M4K(TM) Core -- The small, high-performance M4K core offers a
superior solution for multi-CPU SoC designs, which are becoming
increasingly popular in next-generation networking and broadband
applications. Pro Series(R) Family -- Pro Series cores allow SoC
designers to write their own instruction set extensions and create
highly differentiated, highly competitive products. Using standard
tools and software, designers can significantly increase
performance, reduce power consumption, and more. About MIPS
