MIPS MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MIPS
Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MIPS), a leading provider of
industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital
consumer, networking, personal entertainment, communications and
business applications, announced today that Shanghai-based Opulan
Technologies Corporation has extended its commitment to the
industry-standard MIPS(R) architecture and cores, selecting the
MIPS32(R) 4KEc(R) hard IP core for next-generation broadband access
SoC designs. Developed by MIPS Technologies' Shanghai R&D
facility and targeting TSMC's 130nm process, the 4KEc hard core is
a technology-specific implementation of the synthesizable 32-bit
4KEc processor. Opulan is the latest China licensee to develop
MIPS-Verified(TM) designs, further establishing Greater China as
MIPS' fastest growth market worldwide. "As a current licensee with
MIPS-Based(TM) products under development, we were very confident
in our decision to expand our relationship with MIPS," said Zheng
Liu, chief executive officer at Opulan Technologies. "The 4KEc hard
core is a cost-effective, low-risk alternative to synthesizable
design that allows us to deliver cutting-edge broadband solutions
to market quickly and easily." "SoC designers and system OEMs faced
with cost and time constraints require ready-to-use solutions that
combine high performance with superior area- and power-efficiency,"
said Brad Holtzinger, vice president of worldwide sales at MIPS
Technologies. "We're delighted that Opulan will leverage our proven
4KEc hard core to usher in a new generation of innovative broadband
products in China and around the world." According to Infonetics
Research's latest Broadband Aggregation Hardware and Subscribers
report, the number of worldwide DSL subscribers are forecast to
reach almost 206 million in 2007, a 23% increase over 2006, and
double-digit annual growth is expected through 2010. In broadband
applications, MIPS Technologies has a commanding market presence in
segments including cable modems, ADSL, VDSL and WLAN. About MIPS
