Recipients include 31 nonprofit organizations across American Water's national footprint

The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced today that it awarded a combined total of $825,000 to 31 organizations across the U.S., supporting communities served by American Water through the 2024 Workforce Readiness and STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) Education Grant Programs.

“At Lansdowne Up, we appreciate the support from the American Water Charitable Foundation and Illinois American Water to our youth workforce development program, RISE UP, helping us transform Lansdowne, East St. Louis into a thriving neighborhood - one person, one property, at a time,” said Tony Metcalfe, Program and Training Manager, Lansdowne Up. “Funding through the Foundation’s Workforce Readiness Grant Program will help us continue our mission to empower young people, providing them with opportunities and resources to thrive, helping prepare them for future careers and stable employment."

The Workforce Readiness and STEM Education grants are part of the Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which focuses on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. The total award of $825,000 will support high-impact projects and initiatives that further American Water’s commitment to supporting ESG, as well as inclusion, diversity and equity.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is proud to support organizations that provide access to high-quality training and skills development, as well as educational STEM-focused curricular and extracurricular programs to help prepare future leaders,” said Carrie Williams, President, American Water Charitable Foundation. “Initiatives like these clearly illustrate our foundation's unwavering commitment to the communities where we live and work."

Each application was evaluated on a competitive basis, funding programs with strong impacts and measurable outcomes that align with the Foundation’s funding priorities.
