Omnicom Group Inc. (OMC) on Wednesday reported second-quarter earnings that topped expectations despite foreign-currency translation that weighed on revenue.

The New York advertising company reported net income of $370.7 million, or $1.68 a share, for the quarter, up from $364.2 million, or $1.60 a share, a year earlier.

Analysts polled by FactSet, on average, were expecting a profit of $1.60 a share in the latest quarter.

Revenue fell 3.6% to $3.72 billion, just above Wall Street's expectations of $3.71 billion.

Omnicom said foreign-currency translation reduced revenue by 2.6% during the quarter, adding that revenue rose 2.8% on an organic bases during the period.
