Exxon Mobil Corp. said heavy rains caused unit shutdowns,
reduced operating rates and caused above-normal emissions Saturday
at its refinery in Baytown, Texas.
"Due to a heavy rain event, site steam and electrical system
impacts resulted in safe utilization of the flare system," the
refinery said in a statement to the Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality. "Operational adjustments were made to
minimize emissions, including shutting down affected units and/or
reducing unit rates."
It said the emissions began Thursday and would be continuing
into Saturday night. Units affected included a Delayed Coker Unit
and a Hydrocracking Unit, it said.
The 561,000-barrel-a-day Baytown refinery is located 25 miles
east of Houston.
