BASF to Expand China Production of Cathode Active Materials

BASF SE said Wednesday that it will expand its production
capacity of cathode active materials in China as it looks to meet
fast-growing demand in the electric-vehicle industry.
The production expansion will enable BASF's majority-owned
subsidiary BASF Shanshan Battery Materials to reach an annual
capacity of 100,000 tons of cathode active materials, the German
chemical company said. the business operates in the two Chinese
provinces of Hunan and Ningxia.
The commissioning of the expansion will start from the fourth
quarter of 2022 and will produce manganese-rich products as well as
high-nickel and ultra-high-nickel nickel-cobalt-manganese oxide for
polycrystalline and single crystalline, the company said.
