France's telecom regulator said Tuesday the mobile telephone network of Iliad (ILD.FR), the country's fourth operator, met the coverage requirements as of the end of January.

Iliad's network covers 28% of the country's population, the regulator said. Iliad, which started providing mobile telephone service in mid-January, was supposed to cover at least 27%.

Iliad's rivals have questioned whether it is complying with the network requirements. Iliad competes with France Telecom SA (FTE.FR); SFR, a unit of Vivendi SA (VIV.FR); and Bouygues Telecom, a unit of Bouygues SA (EN.FR).
