PARIS--SFR, the mobile-telephone unit of French conglomerate
Vivendi (VIV.FR, VIVEF), can remain independent and doesn't need to
merge with another company to be viable, le Journal du Dimanche
reported, citing the company's CEO.
"We can remain independent," said Jean-Yves Charlier, CEO of the
mobile company. "We don't need to get married with another operator
to implement our strategy."
Mr. Charlier told the newspaper he expects a few large mobile
phone operators to emerge in Europe, but added that SFR intends to
focus on the French market.
