KT Corporation Selects Tyco Telecommunications to Provide Seamless
Connectivity Between Korea and the West Coast of the United States
KT Chooses Tyco Telecommunications Based on the Strength of the
Tyco Global Network (TGN) and the FLAG North Asia Loop Cable
MORRISTOWN, N.J., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tyco
Telecommunications, a leading provider of international wholesale
network transport and communications services, today announced a
multi-million dollar contract for diverse 10Gb/s Wavelengths with
KT Corporation (KT), Korea's largest incumbent telecom operator and
a leading supplier of broadband services. Under the terms of the
Indefeasible Right of Use (IRU) contract, Tyco Telecommunications
will provide full circuit, high quality connectivity to carry large
volumes of voice, data and Internet traffic between Korea and the
U.S. West Coast. These high capacity circuits were rapidly
provisioned to connect KT's facility in Busan, Korea with U.S.
Points of Presence (PoPs) in Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA and the
PAIX international Internet exchange in Palo Alto, CA and can be
re-configured to support KT's growing telecommunications traffic
between Asian and US PoPs. Tyco Telecommunications will provide
bandwidth on its Tyco Global Network (TGN) Trans-Pacific cable,
which connects Los Angeles, Seattle and Palo Alto in the U.S. with
Tokyo, Japan, where the TGN cable network seamlessly connects with
FLAG Telecom's (FLAG) North Asia Loop cable (FNAL) to provide
direct connectivity from Tokyo to Busan. "Today's competitive
environment demands reliable delivery of broadband capacity to
support the global communications infrastructure needs of KT,"
stated Mr.Yu-Ho Park, Managing Director, at KT. "We selected Tyco
Telecommunications based on TGN and FLAG's ability to provide a
high quality, physically diverse solution in a scaleable and
cost-effective arrangement. KT's capacity will be carried entirely
on protected-loop cable systems that use the latest generation of
fiber optic transmission technology, thereby providing KT with the
robust long-term capacity solution that meets the current and
future international capacity needs of KT and our customers. We
look forward to the continued use of the Tyco Global Network and
FLAG networks to support our global communications infrastructure."
Russ Matulich, Tyco Telecommunications' Managing Director - Asia
Pacific Region, said, "As a leading provider of trans-Pacific
capacity utilizing our Tyco Global Network - trans-Pacific (TGN-TP)
cable network, we recognize the need of a global service provider
to rapidly activate broadband capacity when our customers need real
time service and scalability. TGN is predicated on providing
technically robust capacity solutions that can be customized to
support our individual customer needs. TGN offers customers
physical network diversity with the commercial flexibility required
by today's bandwidth customers, all on an integrated fiber optic
cable network. Our relationship with FLAG enabled us to jointly
meet KT's current and future global bandwidth requirements by
seamlessly delivering KT's traffic into the heart of Internet
centers on the U.S. West Coast with the ability to rapidly connect
to other global points of presence." Owen Best, President Asia
Pacific, FLAG Telecom, said: "The combined reach and reliability of
the TGN and FLAG networks allow us to not only meet the exacting
quality requirements set by KT over one seamless network, but also
provides us with the ability to easily scale our solution to meet
the anticipated demands of the next generation of Internet users
and bandwidth- hungry applications. Our on-going relationship with
Tyco Telecommunications ensures this demand can be carried
confidently intra-Asia and trans-Pacific to the U.S. West Coast."
