August 05 2009 - 7:00AM
PR Newswire (US)
Florida and Dallas/Fort Worth step up their game in a last-ditch
effort to beat reigning champions in sports knowledge CARLSBAD,
Calif., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Following a three-week
sports trivia contest hosted by interactive gaming company NTN
Buzztime, Inc. (NYSE Amex: NTN), data shows that Florida and
Dallas/Ft. Worth have beat out the reigning champs, Texas and
Chicago, as the most sports-knowledgeable regions in North America.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080331/CLM183LOGO) An
hour-long Training Camp game that aired on July 14 initially named
Texas and Chicago as the most sports-savvy areas, but after
Friday's completion of Buzztime's 25 Years of Sports Trivia
Championship qualifying round, Florida and Dallas/Ft. Worth
surpassed Texas and Chicago to take the crown, with Florida earning
a total of 166,249,969 points and Dallas/Ft. Worth earning a total
of 59,140,683 points Vermont weighed in as the lowest-scoring state
in the Championship with 228,840 total points, while North Platte,
NE ranked as the lowest-scoring city, with a mere 2,224 points.
From July 13 through July 31, approximately 141,600 Buzztime
players filed into over 3,600 bars and restaurants, signed into
their online accounts, or competed from their mobile phones to
tally a total of over 1.6 billion points across North America.
Points were awarded to players based on how quickly they could
answer sports trivia questions from Buzztime's 25 Years of Sports
Championship game. The more often a player interacted with the
game, the more opportunity they had to gain points. For the Final
Round of 25 Years of Sports, North America will be split into four
regions for a 3-night competition that will take place August
12-14. The highest scorers from the Qualifying Round will choose
one of the three nights to play for the ultimate prize. In the end,
the highest scorer in each region, each night (plus two wild card
winners each night) will win a spot in the Sports Legends Challenge
held September 14-17, 2009 at Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas.
Sports-savvy Buzztime players aren't the only winners in this
event. Buzztime's bar and restaurant partners enjoyed an increase
in visitors to their locations due to the competition, with patrons
earning 10 times as many qualifying points for playing at Buzztime
network locations, as opposed to the online or mobile games. More
