                        Petra Diamonds issues new shares





Petra Diamonds Limited ("Petra" or "the Company"), the AIM quoted mining group,
announces that it has issued 211,480 new Ordinary Shares of 10p each. The shares
have been issued to a supplier of Petra in return for equipment supplied to the
Company's Alto Cuilo concession in Northern Angola. Following the issue of these
shares, there are no other commitments outstanding to settle Company debts by
the issue of shares.



Application has been made for these shares to be admitted to trading on AIM and
dealings are expected to commence on 2 September 2003.
