Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA, RDSB) reported a small leak that
led to a unit shutdown Wednesday at its Deer Park, Texas, refining
and chemical facility.
"A small leak developed in a section of piping in the Gas Oil
Hydrotreater Unit, resulting in the release of hydrocarbons and
other emissions to the atmosphere," the refinery said in a
statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. "A
shutdown of the GOHT was initiated so that repairs could be
completed on the section of piping with the leak. The shutdown of
the GOHT is ongoing."
It said the emissions began Wednesday morning and could last
until late afternoon Wednesday.
Deer Park is located along the Houston Ship Channel, 20 miles
east of downtown Houston. The facility includes a
326,000-barrel-a-day refinery.
