solutions

city services, creating a single source of information that
will help municipal authorities to anticipate needs and improve
citizen’s advice and assistance services.
- CityOS leverages open-source
data, allowing data sharing between cities and creating an
online community that will help to develop and expand the
system.
- CityOS is part of the Barcelona City
Council's strategy to promote technological sovereignty, public
leadership and responsible innovation and is a pioneer in
incorporating the study on the ethical and privacy impact of the
gathering and analysis of city data.
- Collaborative & Innovation for
Municipal Organizations (CIMO), the joint venture between
Cellnex Telecom, Accenture and ENGIE, has been awarded a
30-month contract to develop the CityOS project.
Barcelona City Council has awarded a 30-month contract to
promote the development of CityOS, an experimental operating system
that streamlines the collection and analysis of information across
all city services to help anticipate needs and improve citizen's
advice and assistance services. In line with Barcelona City
Council's technological sovereignty strategy, CityOS will foster
citizens' control of data and the common good by incorporating the
principles of responsible innovation and ethics in data
management.
The contract has been awarded to Collaborative Innovation &
Municipal Organizations (CIMO), a joint venture comprising Cellnex
Telecom, Accenture (NYSE:ACN) and the ENGIE Group. Driving the
CityOS project will make it possible to create new solutions,
strengthen existing ones and improve citizens' services by
providing more and better assistance and benefits.
CityOS is designed to leverage the technology needed to
strengthen Barcelona's position as a city that is innovative,
sustainable and works for the common good. The possibility to
analyse data through CityOS will increase the efficiency and
efficacy of city services, helping to improve predictability and
anticipate emergencies, provide real-time support to
decision-making and improve citizens' quality of life and the
control they have over their data. The system will operate through
an extensive network of sensors that capture data from multiple
sources, which will gather information to be reviewed using
state-of-the art information analysis methods.
The CityOS project is designed to be replicated in other cities,
thereby setting up a global network that will position Barcelona as
a world leader in innovative, responsible and ethical services to
citizens. CityOS is an open source solution, enabling data exchange
between cities and the creation of an online community that will
help to develop and expand the system. This will extend the current
Sentilo community, originally created by Cellnex Telecom and
Barcelona City Council, which is the current basis for capturing
data from the sensors that the City Council has distributed
throughout the city.
