/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Driving DCX, an innovative diabetes care
program created by DaimlerChrysler to improve the health and
quality of life for employees with diabetes, was recognized with a
tribute from Senator Mike Bishop, Senate Majority Leader of the
Michigan State Senate, during activities of Diabetes and Kidney
Advocacy Day in Lansing, Mich. Kate Kohn-Parrott, Chrysler Group
Director - Integrated Health Care and Disability, and Fred Hoffman,
Chrysler Group Director - State Relations were present to accept
the tribute on behalf of the company. "To be recognized by Senator
Bishop and the National Kidney Foundation for our Driving DCX
diabetes program is an honor and very encouraging," said Kohn-
Parrott. "It validates the proactive direction we have taken with
our employee health programs and our commitment to provide
employees with information that can help them to become more
knowledgeable about chronic conditions like diabetes." The Driving
DCX (Diabetes Care eXperts) program partnered with Henry Ford
Medical Group and Health Alliance Plan to develop an initiative
that integrates diabetes care with existing workplace programs.
Program components include onsite health screenings for blood
sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol, appointments with certified
diabetes educators and "Lunch and Learn" session on diabetes care.
"Congratulations to DaimlerChrysler for implementing programs and
policies to improve the health of their employees and save
healthcare dollars," said Senator Bishop. The Diabetes and Kidney
Advocacy Day is hosted by the National Kidney Foundation of
Michigan and the Michigan Diabetes Outreach Network and advocates
funding for diabetes and kidney disease prevention. One in three
children born in 2000 will develop diabetes and diabetes is the
leading cause of kidney disease. Seventy percent of all cases of
kidney failure caused by diabetes or high blood pressure may have
been prevented or delayed. The Driving DCX program is just one of
several innovative wellness programs offered by DaimlerChrysler to
its employees. DaimlerChrysler takes a proactive approach toward
improving health with access to information, activities and
resources designed to raise awareness of common health issues and
encouraging active participation by employees. DATASOURCE: Chrysler
