DOJ Probing Six Flags, Cedar Fair Merger

Six Flags and Cedar Fair said the Justice Department is
requesting more information about their planned merger.
The companies disclosed the so-called second request in a
securities filing. Cedar Fair and Six Flags said they will try to
comply with the request by May 2.
Six Flags and Cedar Fair agreed late last year to merge in a
roughly $2 billion all-stock deal that would form a new regional
theme-park company with a national footprint. The two companies'
parks have little geographic overlap, but both have parks near Los
Angeles and San Francisco.
Executives from both companies have suggested that they would
use their newfound scale to roll out a subscription pass that
offers access to all or multiple of the chain's parks. Executives
say that would help them compete against bigger rivals like Disney
and Comcast's Universal, as well as other at-home entertainment
offerings like video games and streaming.
