As Detroit's auto makers restart U.S. factories this week, the
companies plan to quickly test any employees who show Covid-19
symptoms.
Ford Motor Co. has contracted with medical centers in Detroit,
Louisville, Kansas City and Chicago to test symptomatic factory
workers and salaried employees for the presence of the virus.
A General Motor Co. spokesman said the company has on-site
testing capability at most locations for workers who are feverish
or showing other symptoms. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said it has
contracts with hospitals in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois to
test symptomatic workers.
A United Auto Workers spokesman said the union continues to
advocate for as much testing of its members as possible and is
pushing for testing of all workers once it is feasible.
