Teranetics 10GBASE-T PHY Being Demonstrated at Interop 2007 SANTA
CLARA, Calif., May 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Teranetics, Inc., a
leading mixed-signal fabless IC company, and Spirent Communications
plc (NYSE:SPM)(LSE:SPT), a global provider of performance analysis
and service management solutions, today announced a joint
technology demonstration of Spirent TestCenter(TM) configured with
the 10GBaseT interface using Teranetics enabled 10GBaseT
technology. The demonstration will be conducted at Interop 2007,
May 22-24, in Las Vegas. The Spirent TestCenter data communications
test platform is used to accelerate the functional and performance
testing of next generation networking equipment being deployed in
today's converging networks. The 10GBASE-T demonstration uses
Spirent's existing Multiple MSA 10-Gigabit Ethernet core test
module (MSA-2001B). This high density, two port single slot 10GbE
test module is the industry's most flexible 10-Gigabit Ethernet
system due to its ability to support a wide range of
interchangeable, hot swappable 10GbE interface types. The 10GBASE-T
interface is based on the Teranetics single-chip TN1010 PHY. It can
test and characterize 10Gbps communication over Unshielded Twisted
Pair (UTP) copper according to the 802.3an standard, including
connectivity. "The ability to demonstrate 10GBASE-T adds a
significant dimension to the flexibility and potential of the
Spirent TestCenter(TM)", said Chris Bohrson, vice president of
marketing at Spirent. "Teranetics is the only single-chip solution
available on the market that met Spirent's requirements for minimum
footprint and power consumption." "The demonstration of the TN1010
chip in Spirent's TestCenter test module represents a significant
endorsement of our 10GBASE-T product," said Kamal Dalmia, vice
president of marketing at Teranetics. "With a 10Gbps infrastructure
planned for the Spirent TestCenter platform, organizations can
verify that their IT infrastructure can support new
bandwidth-intensive applications like high performance computing,
high-definition video transfers and peer-to-peer services over
existing twisted pair copper instead of more expensive fiber
optics. We are delighted that Spirent selected the TN1010 for their
Spirent TestCenter solution." The 10 Gb/s Standard Ratified by the
IEEE in June 2006, 10GBASE-T (IEEE 802.3an) defines the
transmission of 10Gbps Ethernet over UTP copper cabling. As with
previous speed generations of Ethernet technology, the creation of
the copper standard lowers the cost of 10Gbps network links below
that of optical technologies and further accelerates the adoption
of 10-Gigabit Ethernet into network infrastructures. The Teranetics
TN1010 PHY further simplifies adoption of 10-Gigabit Ethernet due
to its ability to connect to existing 1-Gigabit ports via its
industry standard 10G/1G auto-negotiation feature. About Teranetics
