CHICAGO, Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Telephone and Data
Systems, Inc. (NYSE: TDS) today announced that its founder and
chairman emeritus, LeRoy T. Carlson,
will be inducted into Junior Achievement's Chicago Business Hall
of Fame on Sept. 27 at the
Chicago History Museum.
Carlson, age 96, founded TDS in 1969. Initially comprised of 10
rural telephone companies, TDS had nearly $5.2 billion in total operating revenues for the
full year 2011. In 1983, Carlson founded TDS subsidiary U.S.
Cellular (NYSE: USM), now the seventh-largest wireless carrier in
the nation. Carlson was CEO of TDS until 1986, and chairman until
2002.

Carlson will be inducted into the Chicago Business Hall of
Fame along with fellow Laureates Deborah L. DeHaas, vice
chairman, central region managing partner and chief inclusion
officer, Deloitte LLP; and Mike
Keiser, founder and president, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, and
co-founder and retired CEO, Recycled Paper Greetings, Inc.
Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated
to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own
their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart

of Directors of Junior Achievement, the Chicago Business Hall of
Fame was created to honor the champions of free enterprise and
