Timothy P. Knight Named Newsday President, COO; John McKeon Returns
as Executive VP and General Manager LONG ISLAND, N.Y., July 1
/PRNewswire/ -- Newsday today announced that Timothy P. Knight has
been promoted to president and chief operating officer. Knight, 38,
joined Newsday as executive vice president and general manager in
February 2003. Previously, he served as vice president/strategic
marketing, development and finance for the Chicago Tribune. He also
was responsible for the newspaper's interactive operations. From
1998 to 2001, Knight was vice president/strategy and development of
Tribune Publishing Company. In that position he oversaw
acquisitions, strategic planning and development projects. "In the
nearly year and a half Tim Knight has been with Newsday, he has
been instrumental in helping to shape the plan that will take
Newsday into the future," said Raymond A. Jansen, Newsday's
publisher and chief executive officer. "Tim Knight has done a
remarkable job in the short time he's been with Newsday," said Jack
Fuller, president of Tribune Publishing. "He has been especially
strong in confronting the circulation reporting issues the paper
has faced recently. He is one of the company's promising next
generation leaders." Newsday also announced that John McKeon,
senior vice president and general manager of the South Florida
Sun-Sentinel, will rejoin the newspaper as executive vice president
and general manager. McKeon, 47, was Newsday's senior vice
president/advertising when he left the paper in 1998 after 12 years
to take a similar position with the Los Angeles Times. He joined
the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in 2001 as senior vice
president/general manager. "Bringing John McKeon back to Newsday
will substantially strengthen our management team," Jansen said.
Both promotions are effective immediately. Knight will continue
reporting to Jansen, along with editor Howard Schneider, editorial
page editor James Klurfeld and Newsday interactive general manager,
Anthony Wills. McKeon will report to Knight, along with the finance
and human resources departments. All other business departments
will report to McKeon. "We have been making changes in Newsday's
management structure in the last 18 months to prepare for the
future," Jansen said. "These latest changes continue the process of
building for tomorrow." DATASOURCE: Newsday CONTACT: Stu Vincent,
