Software Could Speed Process RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- By now, most Americans have received their W-2 forms and are contemplating the job of filing their 2004 tax returns. For most taxpayers there is no benefit in procrastinating, according to a new national survey from electronics retailer Circuit City. Nearly 7,500 people responded to the Circuit City "Just what I needed for my taxes" survey and more than two thirds (69%) said they are expecting a refund from the state or federal governments. What will those taxpayers do with their refunds? According to the survey: * Forty-six percent will pay bills; * Twenty-five percent will save it; * Seventeen percent will buy something fun; * Twelve percent will use it for home improvements. During the 2005 tax filing season, the Internal Revenue Service expects to issue more than 102 million tax refunds totaling $214 billion. The I.R.S. encourages Americans to file their returns electronically and predicts half of the nation's taxpayers will do so this year. The I.R.S. calls electronic filing the fastest and easiest way to complete tax returns. And, with e- filing and direct deposit, many taxpayers can receive their refunds in as little as two weeks. Circuit City carries tax-filing software, which walks taxpayers through each step of the filing process and helps to improve accuracy.
