Ericsson announces 3G cdma2000 Mobile Switching Center
Ericsson today announced the 3G cdma2000tm Mobile Switching Center
(MSC). Built on Ericsson's latest global AXE platform, the MSC will
provide superior capacity and scalability in an exceptionally small
package.
"By leveraging Ericsson's global platform technologies we are able to
quickly bring highly competitive products to the market," said Ake
Persson, president of Ericsson CDMA Systems. "The MSC for cdma2000 is
yet another example of Ericsson's technology leadership in switching
platforms."
One of the strengths of the cdma2000 MSC is the fact that it
incorporates the Ericsson AXE platform used across all Ericsson mobile
networks. With more than 13,000 AXEs in operation worldwide, and more
than 2000 operating in mobile networks, the introduction of this MSC
based on the advanced AXE810 platform further solidifies Ericsson's
market leadership in mobile switching.
High processing and switching capacity coupled with a remarkably small
footprint will ensure cost-effective operation of the core network.
Costs for power and cooling, spares handling and housing are drastically
reduced due to the compact size and the incorporation of common hardware
components that are easily configured with software. Also, the
scalability inherent to the platform makes it an excellent choice for
networks of all sizes as operators phase their approach to build out of
cdma2000 networks. Operators that have AXEs deployed in their cdmaOne
networks will be able to seamlessly evolve them to cdma2000 with a
software upgrade only.
The MSC's high capacity and scalability combine to give the operator a
strong foundation for providing advanced revenue-generating services.
Circuit-switched and high-speed packet-based services, WAP and Unified
Messaging are examples of services seamlessly integrated with the
cdma2000 MSC.
As with Ericsson's recently announced cdma2000 Radio Access Network, the
MSC has been designed with the flexibility to seamlessly evolve along
with cdma2000 technology. As new 1xEVDO and 1xEVDV phases of cdma2000
are introduced only a software upgrade will be required for the MSC to
work with other elements of Ericsson's total cdma2000 solution. The MSC
also supports ANSI-41E and the open A interface defined in IOS version
4.
"Ericsson is highly committed to products and services that protect
operator investments," continued Persson. "Open interfaces and forward-
looking design ensure that the cdma2000 products of today will be easily
upgraded in line with the rapid evolution of this highly flexible
technology."
