North America's Largest Railroad Continues to Seek Train Service
Employees OMAHA, Neb., June 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Recent
statistics released by the United States Department of Labor
indicate a hiring slowdown within many U.S. industries -- that is
not the case at Union Pacific. The railroad continues to
aggressively recruit and hire new train service employees to ensure
consumer products, automobiles, coal and food continue to move
across the nation's rail system. "Train service employees are
critical to the success of Union Pacific and its customers," said
Barb Schaefer, senior vice president -- Human Resources. "They
handle the safe movement of freight trains and switching of rail
cars in our rail yards. Quite frankly, without them critical
resources needed to keep our nation running just wouldn't get where
they need to go. That's why we offer people in these positions
great wages, benefits and the opportunity for advancement." The men
and women handling train service duties across the Union Pacific
system are directly involved in train operation and movement,
switching operations, and train and equipment inspections. The
railroad provides all training required for the positions and train
service positions offer excellent benefits and pay of up to $40,000
in the first year and $75,000 in future years. There also is the
opportunity for advancement to other positions within Union
Pacific. "With more than 40 percent of our existing workforce
reaching retirement age in the next 10 years, we have a need to
keep hiring," said Schaefer. "As new employees come on board, we
want to give them the opportunity to learn and gain the experience
needed to maintain the strong standards set by our current
workforce." Union Pacific has job openings at many locations
throughout its 23-state operating system. Opportunities are
available in train service, skilled disciplines (e.g., diesel
mechanics and electricians) and management. Interested applicants
